Sometimes a particular piece
of wood with a spectacular grain pattern or the display of an unusual color will often be the catalyst for a new idea, while other times, an idea will slowly evolve. Likewise, an experience may suggest a certain design that requires a search for a particular board with unique characteristics necessary to bring the vision to life. Hawaii is an inspiration for many of my pieces and a source for some of my favorite wood.

The "Windansea Collection" is the name given to a group of several pieces of furniture that were inspired by my love for the sea. Windansea Beach is a very famous surf spot south of La Jolla, California, where many surfing legends grew up in the late 1950s and early 60s. It's a stretch of beach where the red sandstone cliffs and rocks have been sculpted over thousands of years by the wind and waves - an almost mythical place of legendary surfing status.

Recently I did a sculptural table in which I wanted to suggest the movement of waves and water. After completing the table, made of beautiful wine colored African Rosewood, it became obvious it should be titled the "Windansea Table". That table was the beginning of a new journey for me. Several subsequent pieces were designed with a sculptural theme suggesting my affinity for the ocean. I have therefore named this the “Windansea Collection”.
