The Board Room

Modern “shaping bays” with walls painted in dark flat colors and optimum side lighting are the perfect technical arena for shaping surfboards. All the professionals produce boards in such rooms. My favorite place to work is outside which is where I try to be most of the time. I have a special area on my grounds with a canopy of date palm leaves overhead. The birds chirp and an occasional sea gull honks overhead. I am truly blessed with a perfect environment in which to create my work.

It’s an inspiring place to work. Instead of an elaborate dust collection system, I just rake up the wood shavings from the grass at the end of the day. In this boardroom there’s no parliamentary procedure, no votes to be counted, and no financial statements to study.  It’s a special room where the chairman’s wardrobe is always shorts and a “T”, and the meeting agenda is interrupted only by the arrival of some nice waves
